Laudanum Withdrawal and Laudanum Detox
In this Special Report, Siobhan Morse, the executive director of The National Institute for Holistic Addiction Studies, discusses Laudanum Withdrawal and Detox.
What is Laudanum?
Laudanum is a type of opium drug made into an alcohol solution and occasionally it can refer to any preparation that contains opium as its main ingredient.
In modern times, Laudanum is primarily used to treat diarrhea in adults and to prevent withdrawal symptoms in infants born to opiate addicted mothers. It is available by prescription.
Like all opiates, Laudanum is highly addictive. It is strictly regulated as a schedule II substance, and its effects are similar to other opiates such as morphine, codeine, oxycodone, heroin, and methadone.
What is Laudanum withdrawal?
When Laudanum is used chronically and in sufficient quantities, a person will become dependent on Laudanum and will experience withdrawal symptoms upon cessation of use.
The duration and intensity of withdrawal symptoms will vary depending on the length and intensity of use.
Longer use at higher doses will result in more difficult and prolonged withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal symptoms may dissipate within a week’s time.
What are the withdrawal symptoms of Laudanum?
Withdrawal from Laudanum is the same as withdrawal from any opiate and the recovering user may experience any of the following symptoms: anxiety, muscle aches, agitation, nausea, vomiting, and flu-like symptoms.
What is Laudanum detox?
When Laudanum use is stopped abruptly, these withdrawal symptoms can be severe.
Persons who are addicted to Laudanum usually enter a substance medical detox in which the withdrawal effects and symptoms can be minimized at a safe and steady pace under supervision of a medical doctor.
This kind of medical drug detox program has been proven safer, faster, and more comfortable than all other systems currently in use.
