Tylox Addiction and Abuse
Siobahn Morse, the executive director of the National Institute for Holistic Addiction Studies discusses Tylox addiction and abuse in this Special Report.
What is Tylox?
Tylox capsules contain a combination of acetaminophen and oxycodone.
Oxycodone is in a group of drugs called opioid pain relievers.
An opioid is sometimes called a “narcotic.” Acetaminophen is a less potent pain reliever that increases the effects of oxycodone.
Tylox is used to relieve moderate to severe pain.
What are the effects of Tylox?
The primary effect of Tylox is pain relief, and individuals typically begin taking it for this purpose.
Tylox does not produce the euphoric high like stimulants do nor does it provide an intensely pleasurable, relaxing sensation like depressants do. However, it may cause mild relaxation which contributes to its appeal.
What is Tylox addiction and abuse?
Oxycodone can be habit forming, and taking Tylox in larger than prescribed doses or more frequently than prescribed over a longer period than the doctor has prescribed may lead to dependence and, eventually, addiction.
People dealing with Tylox abuse usually take it orally, chew it, crush it to a powder, snort it like cocaine, or even dissolve the powder in water and inject the solution.
It is easy for people in the process of Tylox abuse to indulge in an overdose of the drug.
What are the side effects of Tylox?
The side effects of Tylox include: dizziness, light headedness, drowsiness, upset stomach and vomiting, constipation, rash, difficulty urinating, difficulty breathing and mood changes.
What are the withdrawal symptoms of Tylox?
The withdrawal symptoms of Tylox include: shakiness, diarrhea, goose bumps, cravings, flu-like symptoms, insomnia and pain.
