Baclofen Withdrawal and Detox
In this Special Report, Siobhan Morse, the executive director of the National Institute for Holistic Addiction Studies, discusses Baclofen withdrawal and detox.
What is Baclofen?
Baclofen is used to help relax certain muscles in your body. It relieves the spasms, cramping and tightness of muscles caused by medical problems such as multiple sclerosis or certain injuries to the spine.
Baclofen is not intended to cure these problems, but it may allow other treatment such as physical therapy to be more helpful in improving an individual’s condition.
What is Baclofen withdrawal?
Withdrawal can lead to potentially serious complications such as rapid breakdown of muscle tissue, organ failure or even death.
Withdrawing from Baclofen can be dangerous. For this reason every person taking Baclofen must be aware of the withdrawal symptoms.
What are the withdrawal symptoms of Baclofen?
Symptoms of withdrawal from Baclofen can vary in intensity and may include hallucinations, seizures, high fever, increased rebound spasticity, rapid breakdown of muscle tissue, organ failure, low blood pressure and death.
What is Baclofen detox?
Baclofen should not be stopped suddenly. If the medication needs to be stopped, do so only with your healthcare provider’s approval and supervision.
Your healthcare provider can help you gradually reduce the dosage in such a way as to limit the negative effects of Baclofen withdrawal.
Baclofen withdrawal can lead to a life-threatening situation, and/or death in patients who abruptly discontinue therapy.
