Designer Drugs: Bath Salts Addiction

In this report, he discusses the latest of the drug epidemic – designer drugs commonly called “bath salts.”
It’s basically a synthetic cocaine, with signs and symptoms similar to methamphetamine.
It’s also called:
- ivory wave
- bliss
- vanilla sky

Bath Salts have a lot of very, very dangerous side effects such as:
- increased blood pressure
- agitation
- irregular heart rate
- hallucinations
- extreme paranoia
- delusions
One of the challenges facing the treatment of bath salts is that it’s still technically sold in the United States as not for human consumption.
Oftentimes, it’s sold as pond scum cleaner, insecticide, and even plant food, so it still can be legally sold in the United States although many states now are considering it a controlled substance and are trying to crack down on it on a state-by-state level.
One of the biggest challenges for treating an addiction to this substance is that it can be obtained legally in the United States, and that feeds right into the addict’s level of denial – because it’s a “legal” substance, it’s okay to use.
That’s very challenging for us working the addiction field because in spite of its legality, it’s still a very, very dangerous drug and has very harmful side effects including death.
There have been a number of recent deaths all connected to the use of bath salts.
