Drug Abuse: A Comprehensive Approach
John Giordano, founder of G&G Holistic Treatment, discusses the importance of taking a comprehensive approach to treatment for addiction and drug dependence:
The brain chemistry is very important.
First of all, these drugs, pills and medications all affect the brain and how you think. They change the way the brain works.
It’s really, really important that you consider the effects on the chemistry, and also look for mercury poisoning, lead poisoning or other heavy metal toxicity which can cause depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, thyroid problems and conditions such as leaky gut syndrome which means you don’t absorb nutrients properly.
Regardless of whether we’re talking about prescription medications or illegal substances, they all mess up an array of different things in the body.
Some people with head injuries don’t even realize that they can overdose on their medications, causing brain damage, so their thinking is even more skewed.
It’s very important that you find a treatment center that takes a comprehensive or holistic approach to treating substance abuse or drug dependence issues.
Pills and substances are dangerous.
They are not something we play with, or something that you just use on occasion.
It’s vital that you take a hard, educated look around, and find the best way to get yourself help.
Remember, you need to go to treatment, not just detox.
