Metadate Addiction and Metadate Abuse
In this Special Report, Siobahn Morse, the executive director of The National Institute for Holistic Addiction Studies discusses Metadate addiction and Metadate abuse.
What is Metadate?
Metadate is used as part of a treatment program to control symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, also known as ADHD. It’s used in adults and in children.
Metadate is also used to treat narcolepsy which is the sleep disorder that causes excessive daytime sleepiness and sudden attacks of sleep.
Metadate is in a class of medications called central nervous system stimulants. It works by changing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain.
What are the effects of Metadate?
In the United States, Metadate is classified as a Schedule II controlled substance.
This is a designation used for substances that have a recognized medical value but present a high likelihood for abuse because of their addictive potential.
If Metadate is used as directed by a medical doctor, it has few side effects. However, when it is obtained illegally and abused by recreational users, its improper use can lead to dependency and eventually addiction.
What is Metadate addiction and abuse?
Metadate has a high potential for drug abuse and drug dependence due to its pharmacological similarity to cocaine and amphetamines.
The main abusers of Metadate are teenagers and young adults, particularly those in colleges and universities who use the drug as a steady aid.
They may introduce this drug into their bodies through injection, snorting, or smoking.
Abusers often crush the tablets before using them into a powder. Some will mix this powder with cocaine and snort it while others smoke it together with other illicit substances like marijuana, and there are also those who mix this powder with water and then inject it into the body.
What are the side effects of Metadate?
In high doses for an extended period of time, the user may experience paranoia, schizophrenia or psychosis. These symptoms would include hearing voices, visual hallucinations, auditory hallucinations, urges to harm the self, severe anxiety, grandiosity, paranoid delusions, confusion and increased aggression.
What are the withdrawal symptoms of Metadate?
The withdrawal symptoms of Metadate include: tiredness, panic attacks, psychosis, irritability, extreme hunger, depression and nightmares.
