Signs and Symptoms of Prescription Drug Abuse

Opioid Abuse
Opioids are commonly abused prescription drugs.
- These include:
- Oxycontin
- Vicodin
- Other painkillers
The signs and symptoms of opioid drug abuse include:
- constipation
- depression, or a depressed affect
- low blood pressure
- confusion
- drowsiness
- complaining of being tired or even an inability to stay awake.
Abuse of Stimulants
Stimulants are another form of prescription drug that can be abused.
These include:
- Ritalin
- Adderall
- other prescriptions used in the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, also known as ADHD.
The signs and symptoms of stimulant abuse include:
- weight loss
- agitation
- irritability
- insomnia
- high blood pressure
- irregular heart rate
Abuse of Sedatives and Tranquilizers
Sedatives, tranquilizers and sleep aids may also be abused. These include:
- Valium
- Ativan
- Xanax
- Ambien
- other drugs
The signs and symptoms of abusing sedative, tranquilizers or sleep aids include:
- drowsiness
- poor judgment
- confusion
- unsteady gait or walk
- rapid or involuntary eye movements
