What is Zanaflex?
Zanaflex is a prescribed muscle relaxant for reducing certain types of pain and muscle tension.
It is rarely prescribed for medicinal purposes, but it is frequently abused and is scheduled as a controlled substance in some states.
Zanaflex Addiction and Abuse
Zanaflex can be fatal in overdose. Zanaflex potential for causing addiction is well known.
People can become addicted to Zanaflex and similar drugs even when these drugs are the prescribed treatment.
Others deliberately have used Zanaflex to enhance their effects with alcohol and other drugs.
What is Zanaflex abuse?
Zanaflex acts directly on the central nervous system rather than directly on skeletal muscles.
The drug seems to interrupt normal communication with the spinal cord and certain areas of the brain, resulting in sedation and altered perceptions of pain.
Individuals abuse Zanaflex by taking more than prescribed in order to enhance the sedating effects.
What are the side effects of Zanaflex?
The side effects of Zanaflex include: agitation, depression, dizziness, sleepiness, flushing, fainting, headache, insomnia, poor coordination, nausea and vomiting, rapid heart rate and tremors.
What are the withdrawal symptoms of Zanaflex?
The withdrawal symptoms of Zanaflex include: abdominal cramps, headache, insomnia, chills, and nausea.
